HOW IMPORTANT IS LAKE MALAWI

 LAKE MALAWI

Introduction

Lake Malawi, also known as lake Nyasa is a breath taking African treasure surrounded by the nations such as Tanzania and Mozambique. it is a place where folklore and reality often blend seamlessly. It is approximately 560 kilometers(350 miles)long and up to 75 kilometers(47 miles)wide. It's total area is approximately 29 600 square kilometers( 11 400 square miles).The pictures below shows some parts of the lake Malawi

FISH THAT ARE FOUND IN LAKE MALAWI

There are different fish that are found in lake Malawi. some of the fish include; Chambo, Usipa, Utaka, the African Cichlids, such as the Malawi Cichlid, the electrict Blue Hap, the Red Zebra Cichlids, and the Peacock Cichlid, just to  mention few. Figure below show  the picture of Usipa caught from lake Malawi

    BENEFITS OF LAKE MALAWI TO THE PEOPLE SURROUNDING IT AND TO THE WHOLE COUNTRY.

Lake Malawi has been a vital resource for the people living in the surrounding regions and also the country of Malawi as it helps to boost the economy of Malawi. Apart from that there are multitude of benefits.

Firstly, we can talk of fishing. Lake Malawi supports a thriving fishing industry,  providing crucial source of food and livelihood. Fishing has changed life of people economically as it provide basic needs to among people surrounding the lake, for example most people are able to get money from the lake through fishing as a results people are able to feed their families. In addition to that, lake Malawi has also help to boost the country's economy. The lake helps to provide foreign currency to the country and at the same time provide employment to people in the country.

Secondly, we can talk of agriculture and irrigation. The lake plays a crucial role in supporting agriculture providing water through out the year. This made most farmers around the lake to start practicing farming. Farmers are able to grow different types of crops such as; Maize, Millet, Cassava,etc. this is done because of presence of water in the lake through out the year. This help the country to have plenty of food through the year.

Thirdly, let's talk about tourism. The stunning landscapes and the diverse aquatic life of the lake Malawi attract tourists from around the world, boosting the local economy through tourism related activities. When tourist came and visit the lake they bring are required to pay some fee in order to have access of the lake. In so doing the country is able to have foreign currency. People surrounding lake Malawi are very friendly, that's why we are called,''The Warm Heart Of Africa.''

Finally, we can talk of biodiversity. Lake Malawi is a renowned for its incredible biodiversity, housing a diverse array of fish species found nowhere else on earth, for example we can talk of Chambo and the like  contributing to the region's ecological richness and scientific importance.

HOW DID THE COUNTRY PROTECT THE ECOLOGICAL BALANCE AND THE DIVERSE BIODIVERSITY OF THE LAKE MALAWI?

In order to protect the ecological balance and diverse biodiversity of the lake various measure have been implemented. These measures include;

Conservation of areas. By establishing protected areas and national parks around the lake to preserve its unique Flora and Fauna as well as to regulate human activity in sensitive ecosystems.

Regulation on fishing. Implementing fishing regulations to prevent over-fishing and protect endangered species,  as well as promoting sustainable fishing practices among local communities. In addition to that government of Malawi has also ensure the protection of the lake by civic educating the people the importance of taking care of  the lake and also punishing those who goes against the role.

Environmental education. Conducting awareness campaigns and educational programs to promote environment consciousness among local communities, emphasizing the importance of preserving the lake's ecosystem for future generation.

Waste management and pollution control. Initiating programs to manage and reduce pollution including regulating industrial activities and promoting responsible waste management practices to prevent contamination of the lake's water.By implementing these and other conservation measures, lake Malawi can continue to thrives as a vital natural natural resource while preserving it's unique biodiversity for generations to come.

SUMMARY

This chapter has explained well on some history about lake Malawi which is found in  Malawi and is surrounded by other countries like Tanzania and Mozambique. The lake helps to boost the economy of the country and at the same time bring foreign currency to Malawi. Chambo, Utaka, etc, are some of the fish that are found in lake Malawi.  Citizen are advisible to take care of the lake for the future generation. Not only fishind, the lake is also used for irrigation.

Introduction   Dzalanyama Forest Reserve is approximately 60 km south-west of Lilongwe in Central Malawi , and incorporates the steep range of hills which bear the same name. NYIKA NATIONAL PARK

Introduction Nyika National Park is situated 129 km northwards from Mzuzu and 68 km from Rumphi. Drive west from Rumphi for approximately 60 km and take a right turn towards the gate. The name, Nyika, means "where water comes from" as the plateau's elevation makes it wetter than surrounding areas. Figure 1: picture of Nyika Plateau In 1965, The Nyika National Park became the first certified park in Malawi. It encompasses the majority of the Nyika plateau area in the Northern Religion. It is the largest ( covering an area of over 3,000 sq. km ) and Highest ( heights averaging 1,800m ) of Malawi's parks bordering Zambia on the western side. The area is virtually uninhabited by man, with only a few settlements of Aphoka people. THE WILD AND WONDERFUL WORLD OF LIWONDE NATION PARK

 Introduction The history of Liwonde Nation Park goes all the way back  to the late 1800s, when  it was used as royal hunting ground for the local  Nyasaland rulers. Then, in 1938, it was declared a protected area. Liwonde National Park is home to over 500 species of birds, as well as diverse range of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Some of the notable species include African elephants, Cape buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, impalas,  baboons, lions, leopards, hyenas, zebras, and more. In addition, the park is home to over 200 species of trees, as well as various medicinal plants.  It's truly a diverse and fascinating ecosystem.
